Ralvon Nazarene (dec)
The Puritan (IMP USA) x Trix Silver
Ralvon Nazarene - my introduction to the Arabian Horse. And what an introduction!
He was a gentleman, a friend, an inspiration. Loved and respected by all who had the pleasure to meet him.
Ralvon Nazarene, many times Champion under international judges at major shows in Australia, was out of Ralvon Pilgrim's wonderful dam Trix Silver, by the Talal stallion *The Puritan. This remarkable chestnut stallion was bred by Ron and Val Males of Ralvon Arab Stud in New South Wales , and was born on the third of September 1974.
In his lifetime, Nazarene sired a total of 174 foals registered with the Arabian Horse Society of Australia. Of these foals, 83 were pure Arabians, and 91 derivatives.
When I first saw Ralvon Nazarene, I could not believe that such a horse existed. Let alone existed right in front of me! He was so gentle, so friendly, and oh, so beautiful! Every weekend without fail, my mother would drive me to the stud. My first job of each day was to clean Nazarene's stable. Sometimes if he was slow eating, I would have to clean it with him in it. I was not intimidated at all by this stallion, that's the aura he had. He was so unobtrusive, and had the kindest eyes I'd ever seen on a horse.
An advertisement for Nazarene once had the phrase “Whatsoever you require of me” …. and it was so fitting. For him, and his progeny. They didn't just compete in most disciplines, they competed at the highest level of most disciplines, including the Australian Arabian Championships.
Nazarenes most famous pure Arabian son is undeniably Ralvon Elijah, bred by Ron and Val Males. Ralvon Elijah's dam, Mill Hill Sharmal, was by Ralvon Pilgrim, giving him two crosses to Trix Silver.
Ron and Val saw the yearling colt Elijah leave his native shores for the English stud of Micheal Pitt-Rivers knowing he was to be in the hands of an expert. In 1985, the year after his arrival, he was Champion at Royal Windsor, the Arabian Horse Society Northern Show, and British Champion Stallion. Also that year, he was Champion at Royal Bath and West, the Arabian Horse Society Northern Show, the Royal Show, British National Championships, and at the All Nations Cup in Switzerland under a panel of International judges. He was also the Lloyd's Bank Supreme Champion over all breeds at the Royal Show. The European Arabian magazine NordArab described him as "the most distinguished internationally winning horse in history".
Peter and Jennifer Gregory approached Frank Partridge to purchase Nazarene in July 1996, when Pinosa Park Arabians had come to an end. They didn't want him for a show horse, they didn't want him for a sire, they just wanted to give this legend the retirement he deserved. His retirement was the priority.
“We had him because he deserved to be looked after until the day he died – and that's what we did.” Peter explains. “He was rugged through winter and always had the door of his stable open.”
“He was a king and he deserved to live out the rest of his days like one”, says Peter. “He was just a lovely, lovely horse.” Nazarene was laid to rest on the 7th of May, 2001.
He lives on through the few remaining progeny, one of the youngest being Taradale Siena.
Thank you for everything you have given me - joy, knowledge, happiness and the gift of your progeny.
